I really should update the blog more often!
The skies are finally getting dark enough to do some astrophotography.  Just need the weather to co-operate now.  During a couple of brief clear spells I managed to get a widefield shot of the Milky Way running through the Summer Triangle:

Wide field image of the Milky Way taken in #Northumberland last night. First session of the new astronomical year (properly dark nights are returning soon!) The 3 bright stars are Vega, Deneb and Altair (the Summer Triangle). The dusty Cygnus Rift is very prominent in this section of the Milky Way. Nikon D90, f/8, 18mm, (modified) at ISO400/1600 various sub lengths totalling about 40 minutes. #Astrophotography #milkyway #northumberland #astronomy #stars #nebula #cygnus #vega #deneb #altair #summertriangle #night #nightsky #nikond90 #nikonphotography

The following night the sky cleared just long enough for me to capture the North America Nebula (NGC 7000) in Cygnus.  Could've done with more time to collect more light but happy with the result nontheless.

An unexpected clear spell tonight! Set up very quickly and started capturing images of the North America Nebula (NGC 7000) in the constellation Cygnus. This glowing cloud of hydrogen is about 2000 light-years away and may be glowing because of the brilliant star Deneb (just out of the frame) exciting the atoms within the nebula. Nikon D90 on the 80mm telescope. ISO400, 20x2 min frames stacked. #astronomy #astrophotography #stars #nebula #ngc7000 #northamericanebula #nikond90 #nikonphotography #northumberland #nightsky #nightskyphotography #cygnus

Finally, the partial lunar eclipse wasn't entirely clouded out in July and I managed to get some half decent shots with the camera with and without the telescope.  Here are a few of the best.  Use the arrows to navigate on Instagram.

Some shots of the partial lunar eclipse taken from my home in Northumberland. Very lucky to see this! Most of the sky was cloudy and I took these shots with the Nikon D90 either on the tripod or through the 8 inch Meade LX10. #lunareclipse #astronomy #astrophotography #moon #lunar #eclipse #nikond90 #nikonphotography #nightskyphotography #nightsky #northumberland
